Snowy streets are not always pretty.....

When they’re piled up bumper high with salty slush

Or you’re travelin’ in formation through the city

In a catastrophic numb-inducing crush.

Nope, snowy streets are never really pretty,

When you’re sliding on your tires through the scum

And announcing how the weather is” SO SHI.. VERY”

Through your window screen to all and everyone.

I say, snowy streets are certainly not pretty

If you catapulted gracefully as me,

In a circumstantial sweep, through the slurry, ankle deep

And have landed with your axles up a tree, no siree,

When you’ve landed with your axles up a tree......

I think that had to be sung, rather than read, if you see what I mean...in a Dire straits sort of manner....

Kind regards,

Sue

Hi there Sue de whoever you are! Wow - what a paean to the streets of nasty snow. I feel very honoured to have you grace my photo with your words!

Bless your little cotton socks, Conrad, what a very lovely thing to say.:)

Drive carefully, all the best,

sue

Sue, that's great. I can hear it now, bree-bum DUM, (pause) dweedle DEE dip dip ala The Sultans of Swing!

Nice idea, Conrad, we got ugly snow here too. Big black piles of dirt on the sides of every road and parking lot.

A very interesting view of downtown from the hill... Chinook is on the way Conrad. Let's hope for a mild winter from now on. This coming Friday should be plus 12C...according to weather men.

Conrad Nay on January 13, 2009

Great poetry put to the music of a classic song, followed up by the news of a Chinook in the offing - life doesn't get any better!

Sue, a Chinook is a phenomenon unique to southern Alberta. Characterized by a Chinook Arch formed in the clouds to the west, it is a warm wind than can change our winter temperature from -30C to +10C in a matter of 4-5 hours. It really helps us get through the winter!!!

Hey, I'm glad you told me that, Conrad, I was thinking it was a helicopter. I was quite confused.

I listened to the Sultans of swing this morning, and do you know, Nawitka got the guitar bit off perfectly in her rendition up above there. I wasn't sure about the dweedle dee dip dip bit, but I could hear it, definitely.

Well, yep, I wish you a mighty chinook, Conrad, I honestly don't know how you can stand all that cold. Even the winter here is like a summer's day in England, so I'm spoiled beyond belief. Now I'm going to have a look at where your link takes me!

Great to hear from you, and I was thinking, I hope I didn't offend anyone by mentioning American accents, there are a fair few Canadians about, and of course, you sound so different with your long 'oooooooooooh's, don't you? I do love listening to accents. I wish I could hear all of you.

Right, off to the Chinook arch, and not a helicopter in sight. This is beginning to remind me of when I thought I was off to Norway!

Very best wishes to you,

sue

Pretty neat picture Conrad, as if a line was drawn betwixt summer and winter. I put the "betwixt" in there in case Sue is eavesdropping.

A Chinook is a salmon.

Hi Conrad I see you know a girl called Sue (cue for more songs) I just thought I'd drop by and say hello. Sue can certainly use the words and it is lovely to mmet her in your gallery as well :) All the best to you from nick

Conrad Nay on January 14, 2009

Hi Sue...we're here to educate you warm blooded folk on the intricacies (is that spelled right? I shouldn't really try to use big words) of cold & snowy climes. Because we like to share our misery I suppose.

No offence here re your riff on american accents - not1word may have a different view, but he also needs to brush up on his vocabulary. He keeps saying SPAM when what he is really trying to say is KLIK.

Hey Guy, thanks for your compliment and betwixt statement - Sue would appreciate it I'm sure. A Chinook can come in many guises, all very welcome depending on your locale.

Thanks for dropping by Nick, I'm slowly working through your gallery and thoroughly enjoying it. Be careful about Sue though - "she" suggested a while back that she might be A Boy Named Sue although I think "she" was pulling my leg. I get so confused with all of the pseudonyms around here!

Conrad Nay on January 14, 2009

Coincidence beyond belief, I just realised that at the end of this street is Chinook College...honest!

And Sue, I think your Bardiness is needed here.

Sue Allen on January 14, 2009

Bardiness complete at 12.55 hours Australian Eastern standard time, or whatever it's called. 'Tis done.

Isn't that a coincidence?! I love coincidences, there was the most amazing one, (I thought so, anyway) which occurred yesterday..I'd been discussing a particular song sung by a particular person at a particular place, at a parcticular time, (well, my daughter told me about it,) and I had given it no more thought and mentioned it to no one, but the very same day, in a totally unconnected set of circumstances, a fellow parnoamioan came onto one of my pictures and left a link to the very person, the very concert, the very place, etc, etc, you know what I mean, that my daughter had been telling me about.

I opened up the link on You Tube and i just couldn't believe that out of all the possible songs and places, etc, etc, in the world, he should have sent me that one!

Spooky things like that make my heart sing. Wouldn't you just love to be a witch, or a wizard, in your case? I would!

Very best wishes to you

OH, I just saw your conversation above, with Nick, my very best wishes to you both!

Here I am with hardly a whisker in sight, you can rest easy!

Sue

I'll have you know that I haven't used the word SPAM in this thread yet.

Oops.
