I love this question and absolutely -da Moose wants da Answer - deserve it! Here is my da answer: Ile d'Orleans as a island located in the middle of powerful St. Lawrence River was the perfect location for the first French settlers. Quebec City to the east provided perfect trading support. Here Frenchmen established their first communities, developed farmlands and begin to hold to the lands. Today Ile d'Orleans is known as a land of artful talent and family farming tradition. Ile d'Orleans is one of the oldest settlement of New France, the "microcosm" of traditional Quebec and the birthplace of francophones in North America. More...please read this...in short Bruce...because of that night, September 12-13 in 1759 French lost to the British...we speak here English...otherwise today North America would speak French :)))...Cheers, Rafal
