Beautiful colours and contrast! I like your gallery, it's full of particular shots and tones of different colours...

I'm also very happy with colors and contrast of this picture, and I was fully aware of having no chance to win the contest - my rocket picture already got an honorable mention in December and the rules state that every user might win only one prize, no upgrading or something else is possible.

But one question remains: This picture has almost 5000 views, why do I still have to zoom to a very low height in Google Earth to see it? It's surrounded by bunches of pictures with almost no comments and only a fraction of views, is something wrong with the Google Earth update mechanism?

Greetings from Ulm, Germany,

Christian

Christian - I have a similar situation with a photo I have taken in Yellowstone National Park. Relatively high viewcount, low visibility.

Google Earth is only updated about once a month, and then it is done imperfectly - the last time it was updated, you probably had far fewer views than now.

The popularity of photo depends on many factors - viewcount, but also comments (of which you have many), favorite stars, and BEST OF nominations, among other things. All of these are factored into the popularity equation.

Next time GE updates at the end of March, check again. You may find it is larger :-).

Thanks for the nice explanation, Bruce da Moose! I was aware of the popularity being a function of viewcount, best of stars, and even age. I simply wondered because I've read somewhere in the forums that the last update was already end of February/beginning of March and the picture already had 3000+ views back then and it is still much "lower" than some around 20 views pictures. Guess I simply have to wait a little longer, maybe the end of March update will increase the pictures "height". I hold my thumbs for your mentioned Yellowstone pic! ;-)

Thanks for your visit, eran.melamed!
