Thanks, Conrad. Yes, they are picnic benches, but they're sitting on a lawn this side of the ice, so no, they won't sink into the lake when it thaws!

Oh yes, if you look very closely at the enlarged photo you can sort of see that. I would have just strung folks along...

Marilyn, are you still using your same camera? I still cannot achieve photos like this at all. I have to say that I'm hopeless with getting the true horizontal. This has great structure and points of interest apart from the main theme. I have a lot of work still to do. But by looking ... maybe I can improve.

Amelia, yes, it's the same camera. After Christmas my younger son and I had a conversation about cameras when he showed me what he is getting with his some gift money. He told me about one that's "under development," and I may see whether I can afford it when it comes out, but that's a long way off. In the meantime, my compact ultrazoom continues to serve.

But I certainly have not been aware of any deficiencies in your photos! You've been doing wonderful work.

I dithered too for a long time, and it was my eldest grandson, also a very keen photographer, who finally had the say, but I still think I need the capacity for convenient telephoto. :)

If I go ahead with what I'm thinking of (whenever it comes out), I'll lose some zoom capacity, but not as much as I would with some cameras with picture quality improved over what I have. There are so many things to consider!
