old growth redwood tree sit, freshwater watershed 2003

no way! is this the one you can see a couple platforms on driving up the road to it before freshwater? i've always wanted to go up there...

yeah, its near freshwater on greenwood heights road. it was cut in 2004. there were many platforms in trees that could be seen from the road in 2002-2003. all but 2 were cut. and they are now protected thank god. a new company (humboldt redwood company) bought pacific lumber and in order to be certified by the Forest Stewardhip Council they agreed to not cut any of the remaining oldgrowth. so all of the treesits that were on PL land recently (one near scotia and another across the creek from town of freshwater) have been taken down. there is a treesit now near eureka on Simpson land where they want to clearcut. you could go up there, if you can stand the hippies (its worth it) contact

ha! theres no type of person i can't handle (yet anyway, haven't met em all) i like the sound of humboldt redwood company... what about the 1000 or so acres in headwaters that PL could still log? i just learned about that. did they ever? thats awesome if humboldt redwood company has that too...

thats a good attitude! the parts that were not bought by the feds in 99 were mostly logged. protests and treesits continued, but tree sitting became less and less effective over the years. its actually on my list of things to do to go out there and see whats left. its a bit of a hike. and yes, Humboldt Redwood co has it now and they wont log whats left. even residual oldgrowth trees help spotted owls and such survive so its a good thing.

AND sometimes you get to run from the cops....or sit in the tree and laugh at them.

...so i've only been on here for like week and i just had someone comment 4 photos really quick, all with a link saying "view my contest photo" is that how people spam to get votes for sub-par pics? is there a way to block links like that in the comments? bleh.

p.s. i used to wait for cops to see me then run at night in fortuna during my "little shit" phase... it was easy since they weren't willing to jump in the creek and i was... gotta create your own fun!
