This photo was taken around 5 PM on 18 Jan 2009. I was already climbing up from the beach along a southern trail. Just looking at it, you probably can't get a sense of the scale. There are two people standing in the sunbeam on the beach -- but you will have to zoom close to 100% to see them. And if you look closely you can pick out some other people still on the beach.
I was a little surprised that everyone wasn't heading back at that point. I personally wanted to make sure that I wasn't on one of the footpaths climbing up the slopes of the forest once the sun had finally set: there would have been very little light, and if you slipped in the wrong place you could go down quite a ways.
I love the position of the sun in this one and I agree...it makes a photo more interesting to put subjects off balance.
