Light and Darkness

Taken late in the afternoon, 18 Jan 2009.

This is at the same location as Blue Discovery but the view is a full circle panorama. The spherical projection lends itself to an abstract bipolar motif. The brush is illuminated towards the center but the beach is in darkness. The people at the edge of the brush are closer and in light, and as such achieve an individuality which is missing among those far from the brush.

Near the center of the brush we see a young man and woman. Somewhat farther from the center of the light we see a mother and child -- with the mother double-exposed. But the people furthest from the viewer are in darkness and appear so small that one can only guess at their relationships. Given the symmetries, the photo might lend itself to variety of different (although not necessarily opposing) interpretations.
