Yes this is a real photo from this location, Taken with a Canon 20D and a 12mm wide angel lens. a Panoramic image was created and converted to polar. If you stand in the park this is what you would see in any direction.

12mm is made by Tokina, it's a better lens than the 10mm Canon. There is less paralax and it feels sturdier. The lens is actualy 12mm to 24mm. I use this lens about 20% of the time and I have a collection of 8 lenses so it gets used plenty. The sun was still out but an evening angle, low light. The stars and shadowing were added for effects.

This has got to be one of the coolest photos I have seen in a long time.

Great job! Michael.

Your photo was the trigger for me to learn this technique. I think I've found a way, to make such pictures from my panoramas. Thanks for the idea. Greeting U. Walli

did you apply a spheric filter at photoshop?

rsyms on December 22, 2008

yes, sort of... I shot a 360 deg. panoramic image. Resized the image to 1:1 ratio rotated 180 deg. then used the polar quardinates filter to apply the rotation around a single point. It's easier done than explained. if you need more explaination E-mail me.
