Black Pool is such a gem. The misnomer (when it was surveyed, it was cool enough for black algae) makes it even better. Natural splendor may be timeless, but Yellowstone isn't.
Thanks, David. I agree. I love West Thumb, as it is so changeable (as are all the hydro-thermal areas). Since it sounds as though you are familiar with the park you might be interested to know that a large area of Yellowstone Lake in the area of West Thumb was still unfrozen as of the date of this photo. Very strange. Do you work in Yellowstone?
I did a few years ago. Lousy housekeeping job in Grant Village. I'm none too fond of the guest-service contractor, but I love that park.
Great foto Eve. Must be a fantastic region.
Bruce, I also remember it being black, well, sort of that dark olive-brown that Morning Glory was after it got clogged before they cleaned it out and it started heating up again. Thank you for the complement.
David, I'd love to work in the park full-time (I have a secret wish to be a Snow-coach driver), but since I value my health insurance from my full-time job, I can't work in the Parks more than about 8 weeks a year. I'm suppose working for Xanterra is no picnic, but they are sure a huge improvement guest services-wise from TW.
