Russell, Thanks, I use the Navy's sun/moon rise time calculator to anticipate shots like this and be in the right place at the right time. Full moon rise shots are often best a day or two before a full moon so you can catch the moon clearing objects on the horizon (like Half Dome). Go to http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.html to calculate moon rise times for your location.

his particular shot was taken with a 300mm lens from the Tunnel View location. Using a Canon Digital Rebel D-SLR further magnified the image 1.6X to make the image equivalent to using a 480mm lens on a 35mm or full frame D-SLR camera.
