Is this evidence of global warming? There was a significant increase of sightings of Macroglossum stellatarum in the UK 2006; but most were in the south of the country. This moth's usual distribution in Europe is mediteranean. It gets its common name because of it has eveolved the same manner of feeding from flowers as the hummingbirds.

I saw an example of one of these near Frankfurt http://www.panoramio.com/photo/4900843 and http://www.panoramio.com/photo/4900854 and had no idea what the latin name was. Many thanks! I haven't seen one in the UK.
