The Barton Creek Greenbelt is the crown jewel of Austin. A seven mile stretch of beautiful falls dotted creek lined with hiking/running/biking trails, climbing walls, and swimming holes. It empties into Barton Springs Pool at Zilker Park downtown, just before Town Lake. The water level varies from high rapids at the spring rains, to largely dry, (above ground), in the late hot summer. Development along the creek watershed, and the potential polluted runoff, is an ongoing focus of Austin politics.
