Santa María la Real de La Almudena is a Catholic cathedral in Madrid, Spain.
Plans for the construction of a new church dedicated to the Virgin of Almudena began in the 16th century, but construction did not begin until the 1800s and it was not completed until 1993, when the cathedral was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. On May 22, 2004, Felipe, Prince of Asturias married Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano (who was thereafter known as Letizia, Princess of Asturias) at the cathedral.
