The den center is a mound originally formed by a termite colony decades ago. The actual den is an elaborate subterranean complex, where birthing and pup rearing occurs. Subsequent excavation of the original termite mound was conducted by aardvarks, and finally remodeled by the Painted Hunting Dog (Lycaon pictus pictus) pack. In the foreground is a resting adult.
