Thank you very much, 赝能隙-寻城记. As shown above canadian beavers are more and more popular in Poland and are not sleeping in the middle of the winter. Nature is crazy.
Yes, Elemér - beavers resettled here and in whole nothern Poland. About 10 years ago it was something unique, today signs of them can be spotted in Warsaw, not far away from city center. It looks like they are not afraid of thrash and city noise.
I agree with you, Keno. But in must cases I've seen they choose river banks and forests. Of course they improve water level, but sunken forests are they victims.
Wow. That is amasing. The Beavers actrially chew them off. I didn't know that as we don't have them in Australia! I see now why you called Pest. They could do a lot of damage over time!
Hiup you mention how Brest was on the border with Poland. While I was living in Brest for about 9 months, I found we had some friends who lived right on the river and they said the Polish border was on the other side. While we were Warsaw we stayed at the Holiday Inn, not far from Railway Station as I said before. Getting back to your snow. I just love it. I always wanted to make a snowman. After a while I liked the tempitaure around -10C as it was easyer to walk in it. I also had to learn how to walk on icey streets. At first I used to slip over a lot, because it was the way I put my foot down!!! :-)
We will be going back to Brest in Sept 2009. Only short trip this time. It a wedding of our eldest son. Poka , David.
David - beavers in Poland were almost extinct, but today we have many of them after reintruduction in nature - most of them came from Canada. I can understand conservation as a kind of ethic, but they make so much damage...
Brest is exactly a former Polish city (Brześć Litewski), like almost all the Belarusian territory (Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth).
First contact or even touch with icy road can be fatal ;) Especially in Belarus. In september should be quite hot in Brest and close to golden autumn. I think without a snow.
Thankyou Hubert for showing the Railway Station. It was really of you to share this information with me. I looked at Rail Station photo it was just as it was when I was there last. Yes I do realize about Brest and some more of Belarus was also part of Poland as my wife told me. Yes I know how fatal icy footpath can be:-)))Yes, we are looking forward to our trip back to Brest again. Last time I was there was July 2005, but my went back in May 2007 to see her family.
I was in a hospital today having some treament and got talking to man who was also explaining about Belarus and just what said today. We have arranged to meet next week for cuppa tea and chat about everything. He from what is now called Serbia. he is 67 yrs and came here when he was just 20 years old.I like making new friends where ever I go, can't seem to help myself.:-)
It's quite a long time since 2005. I don't know if there are many changes in Brest - at least Belarusian president is still the same person. I see many changes in my country after joining European Union in 2005.
You told me it will be a short visit in 2009 - I think you could use Minsk airport.
Serbia is quite away from Belarus, at least letters in alphabet are similiar ;)

ÓÓÓ ! Beavers worked here! It is resettled at us!
Elemér
Beavers have a great deal of cultivating a grassy land which is important resorces for other animals. A coyote is an archrival to them.

Holiday Inn is next to the Railway Station Warszawa Centralna, but between hotel and station there is Golden Terraces shopping mall with Rock Cafe.
