On of the first signs in nature that spring is coming are our Common Hazels (Corylus avellana). Here you see an abundance of male catkins (flowers). The female flowers, which are very small and red, will develop a little later.
As I was in Groningen (City) last week in the City Park, the small red flowers where all ready flowering. This place is a little colder.
We've had a February thaw, but around here there's some bare ground but some snow left. The current temperature (about noon) is -3 C. Spring is not just around the corner.

Beautiful photo, Erik! The selective focus works well to give it a sharp layer and a gentle background.
