This picture was taken in the 1950s. It shows the Penland Family Home, and the Penland's Bar and Restaurant overlooking the River. According to my Father, Bill Penland, the 49er's took $26,000,000.00 in gold off of Rich Bar and the surrounding area on the Feather River when the Gold Price was $18.00 an ounce. That is 1,444,444 ounces of .995 fine gold. In todays (February 14, 2009) average Gold Price of $937.00 an ounce, that would equate to $1,353,444,444.00 worth of Gold. If you have questions, please email me. You can find this and more in my Father Book: Deep Canyon, Heavy Gold By: Bill Penland
