Gothic Reveval Style architect G Gilbert Scott, built by Mr Harris of Berkhamsted finished May 1855.

Stained glass windows designed by Alfred Bell. The fresco on the dome over the Alter is of Dante's vision of heaven.

The new glass extension to the church was designed by Nick Wood of Blackwood Architects.

nswy2008 Thank you

Nikitin_Sergey Thanks :)

jac hendrix Yes Jac it was the new bit that caught my eye and forced me to stop as I was following the Grand Union Canal southwards on the road running near to it ~ with this church in between.

I'm glad that I did stop because it is a lovely little church with the most beautiful interior and as you write the old and the new go so well together from the outside.

All the best from nick

eleni., Good morning dearest Eleni ~~~ here is one I missed from last night:) Yes it is very eye catching and this is the way I saw it almost from the road that caused me to stop to capture it.

Good Day All, I am churchwarden here at Bourne End. Thank you for your comments - we are delighted with the impact our extension is making! We would be pleased to welcome anyone who wishes to visit either on line at www.stjohns-bourne-end.org.uk/ or in person. I'm afraid the church is locked due to its isolated location but we are there every Sunday! Or contact us via the website.

warden1 ~ A very special welcome to you Churchwarden it is very gratifying to receive your contact and comments. I'm so pleased that you have found this shot of your most beautiful church and yes the extension is fantastic. I hope it does gather you in more members to your church ~ I received a fantastic welcome on the day that I took this exterior shot and I also took some interior shots too. Most friendly greetings to you from nick
