This location is at the end of a parit (open sewer) and its opening to the Kapuas River, largest in Indonesia. The Sultan of Pontianak's mosque is only a few metres away. The boats in the photo are fairly typical of rivers in Borneo - strongly coloured, usually with greens and blues. This part of Pontianak is one of my favorites. indyj@rogers.com
