Tom played his saw on campus at Cowell and Stevenson Colleges during 1966 and 1967. He had been a logger and an activist for the International Workers of the World (the Wobblies) during the 1930's. He still had a socialist message for any of us students who would listen, and the beautiful music he could coax from such an unlikely instrument entranced everyone.

Thanks for the information about Tom Scribner, Matt and Max. It lends more meaning to the photo for everyone but particularly for me as a photographer, knowing that the shot has elicited a response from viewers.
