Our snow cave is in the slope behind the packs and snowshoes near the center of the picture. The cave slept two of us with room to spare, but we never struck dirt or even bushes while digging it. Mount Baker's summit is 7.4 miles (11.9 km)away and 5,600 feet (1700m) above us.
