After Stourton Junction the canal takes a 90 degree turn to the left to an aquaduct crossing the River Stour. On the right is a curious narrow boathouse cut into the sandstone rock, known as the Devil's Den
It certainly is a picturesque walk, enhanced by the placid waters of the canal. The lair seems more like a wartime bomb shelter providing protection from evil rather than concealing evil!
curious name!may be in the deep of the night the den looks like devil's but now it does not give dismal impression!
There are many place name that refer to the Devil, but their origin would be lost in the mists of time and legend!
Best wishes Peter
