Knysna Lagoon is actually a tidal estuary fed by the Knysna River. The nutrients that flow out to the sea are vital to the marine life along the coast. The steam train shown in the photograph is of the Outeniqua Chootjoe which ran on a daily basis from Knysna to George until the service was suspended after the floods in August 2006. It is hoped that this unique live steam train service will once again be reinstated.
