What is the village in the foreground? It looks like there are too many foothills in front of Ma On Shan for it to be Ma On Shan Tsuen. Could it be Mui Tsz Lam or Mau Ping? Neither one looks like that today, but maybe 50 years ago they did. See CentaMap for a detailed map of Hong Kong.
Good question! When I lived in HK I thought Ma On Shan was its most beautiful mtn. Was on and around it (various sides) several times, but haven't been able to figure out even close to where I was when taking this pic ... thus haven't provided a location. It's a telephoto shot so could it be from Tolo Highway? If you (or anybody else) has a good idea on what village or where foto was taken from please feel free to suggest a location!
Tolo Highway seems unlikely, because of the angle of the Hunchbacks as compared to the saddle ridge between the Hunchbacks and Ma On Shan. For comparison, here is one I took last Sunday while descending Buffalo Hill to Buffalo Pass. If anything, yours looks like it was taken from farther to the east of mine, not farther to the west. But it's hard to tell, given the narrow field of vision. I'll probably go back to that area a few times in the coming months, and keep an eye out for any perspectives that look similar to the one in your picture.
I see from your shot it's still a beauty area! Thanks. And let me know if you come up with a good idea of the location from which mine was taken.
Hi Belote,I read this post then went to Sai Kung on Sunday (March 24th). I took a picture at the intersection point of Clear Water Bay Road and Pik Uk Tsuen then compare it with your picture. I think you probably took this picture somewhere between the link below:
Unfortunately, because of misty mountain and rainy sky, my picture was not so clear.
