Sebastian Cabot was here for 3 months in 1526, whilst here his ship's chaplain, Francisco Garcia, celebrated mass in this church. Leaving here at the end of September he went on to the River Plate where he founded, (1527), the first European settlement in Argentina which today is known as Puerto Gaboto.
