Astonishing construction! Due to the heavy concrete loads it looks like the bridge can be open like an armoire. Probably for the crossing boats. But what about the other bridge upstream?

The bridge beyond is the Walnut Street bridge, and the Wikipedia entry about it
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walnut_Street_Bridge_(Tennessee)
is very interesting. (I can't include it as a link because it ends in a parenthesis.) The Walnut Street bridge was closed for a number of years but has been renovated and turned into a very popular pedestrian bridge. It does not open, and I believe it is higher than the Ross bridge, and river boats can cross beneath it without difficulty.

Compliments, Marilyn! Great perspective, very nice composition! The contrasting colours of this impressing structure suit perfectly well in this riverscape. Best wishes, May

Bridges are connections. I like them because they offer great perspectives, but I think we all are drawn to that aspect that conquers rivers and ravines to connect people. This is a strong looking bridge!
Cheers,
Hank

Yes, Hank, the "connections" factor is probably part of the fascination.

Belated thanks for the comments you made while "wandering," Amelia! I took this on a weekend away from Atlanta while I was doing research in the city. We'll be going to Atlanta again next week, but we haven't decided where we'll go exploring on the weekend between our days in the archives.
Greetings, Marilyn
