Lovely photo Paula. Magical Mallyan Spout! There used to be a fallen branch across the fall which my kids loved to sit on and get soaking wet :(

Thirty or so years ago, I remember doing a lovely circular walk which goes down past the spout and on to a youth hostel before turning up to the right onto the moor to a spectacular piece of Wade's Causeway the Roman road over Wheeldale.

It then works it's way down to Beckhole before climbing the old railway incline back to Goathland. Well worth a days outing.

Hi Paula, I didn't see a branch, but it is a lovely place! I know the walk you are talking about, we did that one a day or so before. Well worth it!
