Thank you for your comment. Yes, that is a another name for them, that is the problem with common names and the reason I put the family name as well. They are fairly small, at about 3-4 mm, the female being a bit longer than the male. They have the long 'beak' feature that makes them like the scorpionfly family, and they are closely related to fleas with similar jumping abilities. And I think these little guys are great. (The other snow fleas are much smaller and are part of the order Collembola).
