Jo, these guys are very alert during this mating season. When I took this shot I only have my point and shoot with me. The G10's max zoom was 140 mm and that's what I used. Too bad that I did not have the SLR with 300mm telephoto handy! This shot is heavily cropped and lighting was not the greatest (he was under shade). ISO of 200 and heavy cropping makes the shot somewhat grainy but that's the best I could do under the circumstances. Good luck on your wild turkey hunt! Best regards, David

Jo, my EOS telephoto lens is the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. Listing price is $649.99 while most on-line places are selling it at $549.99. It really works well for me. Great for long distance bird shots and short distance close-up insects. But it does not do the true "macro" type shots. The reason is that you have be be more than 6 feet from the subject. I hope this info is helpful. Best regards, David

Great shot! We have alot of wild turkeys that stay in our bunkers over the harsh New England winters. In spring we can sometimes get good shots of the toms.

This one also required some luck. As you know these turkey toms are very aggressive and moves very fast during the spring mating season. Greetings to New England, David
