There is much confusion in the area on the naming of the various bays which stretch in a line from Hopeman Golf Club in the west, to the Covesea lighthouse in the east section of this three miles or so of dramatic coastline. This bay is shown as Clashach Cove on the OS maps, yet council signage nowadays refers to it as Cove Bay. A number of local families know it as Primrose Bay. But others refer to Primrose Bay as one which lies east of the quarry, and is almost inaccessible.

My family has always referred to this as Primrose Bay. What i miss most about it now that I live in Canada is the glorious and unmistakable perfume of the gorse bushes (the yellow flowered prickly bushes seen in the foreground).

Frying Scotsman - Join the club! My father, living locally, visited this bay frequently with his brothers, from about 1910, and our family has always known it as Primrose Bay, but there are others who beg to differ; I was catering for their views in my comments, but I am pleased to find we are not alone in considering this to be Primrose Bay!

I lived in Kinloss from 1951 to 1954 when my dad was in the RAF,and have been going back that way since 1960- as long as I can remember I have always known it as Primrose Bay, and occasionally heard it referred to locally as
the cove at HopemanTranslate
