Beautiful photo and wonderful title dear Marilyn. I love the horizontal striations on birch bark.

Greetings, Amelia

Such an interesting photo, Marilyn - it looks like an ENORMOUS tree judging from the girth.

What neat bark Birch trees appear to have, and the "eye" is that a natural occurrence or is it as a result of damaged bark?

I know very little about birches, but am keen to learn.

Cheers, Hazel

Thank you, Sergey, loefix, Nawitka, Amelia, Mike, and Hazel. My other birch bark photo is the "serious" one, but I couldn't resist taking and posting this, too. I assume that the "eye" marks where a small branch was broken or cut long ago. The tree is not really very large: I had to move close to capture the "face" effect.

Cheers, Marilyn
