Hitite empire royal palace in ruins

Hittite Empire

This is an Indo-European empire that was destroyed by invaders from the Balkans and disappeared around BC 1190. It had become the ruler of the highlands of Anatolian by conquering the native tribes one by one through an invasion of Asia Minor from the plains of modern-day Ukraine around early BC 3,000.

During its early period, it was merely a small kingdom; however, the empire came to dominate even Egypt and Mesopotamia during the height of its prosperity and was known for its use of chariots and iron weapons. Also it used hieroglyphs and had a well developed legal and cultural system with its capital at Hattusa, which is situated at an altitude above 950m.
