Nepal is where Buddha was born (Lumbini) and become a Prince. Some of the images made here do accommodate his princely attire, such as jewellery on his ear, neck and arm. Not sure Buddha actually do wears that when he left the palace. Worshippers somehow try to include them in their image making as part of decorating the deity to remember him as a prince. Most, if not all, the image here has long ear and a little slit to put on earring. It is quite a common feature that even some are not made to put on earring still do have a slit. Spreading east all the way to Burma, the Shan (Burmese ethnic group) Buddha image do provide ear slit to put on real earring and changed them according to the season. Some images are made with a fixed permanent earring on. Notice the inverted heart-shape 3rd eye. 17th Century, Kathmandu National Museum.
