OK, so the war is over... :)

Ian Stehbens on April 12, 2009

Mad Max must have been here, Liviu.

In fact the Mad Max II movie was filmed here.

Such a scene is all too familiar to me, from the tragedy of war in Timor Leste, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Sri Lanka!! But thankfully, this is but the remnants of an old mining town, most of its buildings having been relocated by 1900 in Broken Hill, the very rich sliver, zinc, lead mine to the east.

Easter Greetings,

A fine set of images Ian,capturing the feel and colors of our semi remote landscapes, thank you for sharing, Cheers Craig :)

Ian Stehbens on April 12, 2009

Thanks Craig.

I really appreciate your affirmation, Craig - authentic Aussie appreciation of the wide red land.

Ed. Rodríguez Prati on April 13, 2009

Ja ja, I was going to tell you : a Mad Max scenery Ian and you've just said it... Well, I catched the spirit, best wishes, Edmundo

Ian Stehbens on April 20, 2009

Hi Edmundo,

If Australian Craig says they are a fine set of images capturing the feel of our remoteness, and you have caught the spirit of Mad Max from this image, then I must surely have succeeded with this photo journey to the inland! I am very pleased. Ja?!

Everyting is desolation and ruin

Ian Stehbens on May 3, 2009

Dear Gondor,

There is no towing business here, so you might like to establish one. I am pleased that you appreciate such abandonment.

And Olga,

You would be pleasantly surprised by the life of such a place - now renowned for the frequency of visits by film crews.

hello ian, nice photos you have got. I was in broken hill about ten years ago, i really loved that place... but unfortunately i got just one picture from there.

Ian Stehbens on November 16, 2009

Thanks David. I am pleased that you are able to enjoy mine to make up for what you didn't record during your visit. Do go again though. Regards,

I thought Mad Max was done nearer Coober Pedy, SA, not in NSW, Ian.

Maybe MM#II was done near here but I did visit the site north of Coober Pedy years ago that was where some MM filming was done...

Peter, who lived 15 years in Port Augusta, SA, south of Coober Pedy.

Ian Stehbens on August 4, 2011

Yes Mad Max was filmed at Coober Pedy and at Silverton too. Thanks for your interest in this part of the world, Peter and it is interesting that a Kiwi would enjoy exploring the vastness and aridity of this continent.

Balmy regards from Tonga,
