Take air tickets to Yuzho-Sakhalinsk. Then you could fly to airport Burevestnik, but it is unreliably due to weather conditions (you could wait the flight 2-3 weeks). It is better to take the cruise by vessel from the port Korsakov(30 km from Yuzno-Sakhalinsk) to Kurilsk (about 36 hours). From Kurilsk you need take a worker car (vahtovka) to the experimental geothermal power plant at volcano Baransky. Then you need go further by the road by foot. Be careful there - there are many bears around. It is better to take some local volcanologist as a guide.
Good luck.
Attention: Kurilsk (Iturup) is a border zone (pogranzona) (in 2002). I think you need get some official papers to get there. (I do not have got such problems because I was in official expedition).
