This is the Redfern Inn, named after Harry Redfern who was the Architect for Carlisle and District State Management Scheme, which nationalised the public houses in Carlisle during the First World War to combat the drunkeness of the munitions workers from nearby CAD Longtown. Many other public houses in Carlisle bare the stamp of Harry Redfern's architecture.
