I love the red and black on there ones...but doesn't the white patch look out of place...perhaps its to make it look less apertising haha

You must be inside a big butterfly house to find all of these lovely shots ;)

The heliconius 'patchwork' is - concerning genetics - very variable. So there are existing beautiful hybrids of all combinations of colors & patterns, which doesn't make it easy to identify them correctly, compare to h. melpomnene.

The butterfly house on 'our island Mainau' has a size of nearly 900 m². So there's lots of space to shot these lovely insects. But especially when it's cold outside you have to wait 'ages' to get a fog-free lens.

How lucky you are...too be able to visit this butterfly house and catching these lovely butterflys on camera...can just imagine you sneaking up on one..only to have your lens fog over ;)
