Beautiful panorama. Great light and the Wanderer makes it perfect. (I'm an albatross fan).
Greetings from Denmark, Allan Hansen.
Thanks Allan! Albatrosses are the most magnificent birds! We raised about 10.000 dollars for the 'Save the Albatross foundation' by selling my photo Cd's on our vessel. When did you go to Antarctica and on which vessel?
I traveled with the Polar Star in 2002/03 and 2007/08 arranged by Cheesemans. We raised $2300 for the Albatrosses on the last trip.
According to this article: http://www.rspb.org.uk/news/details.asp?id=tcm:9-210822 there might be some hope for saving these fantastic birds from extinction.
That is good news. But the problem mostly concerns the illegal long line fishers. The legal ones might do as much as they can to avoid casualties by fishing at night, using dyed bate or bate that sincks to the bottem more rapidly or other small adjustments. The illegal ones are the big problem. On Prion Island there is an anual decrease of nesting Wanderers of at least 15 % each year.
South Georgia is indeed a marvelous place and the albatrosses are simply magnificent. Thanks a lot Bruce!
Wow, I love this picture!
Thanks a lot pasavign!
Nice view with the albatross and the mountains. Like. South Georgia was my favorite place, would like to go back (Polar Quest has a trip going on now, spending 8 days on South Georgia, to consider some other year). Greetings from Sweden, Mats.
