Top floor was the Single Mens Quarters (SMQ) for the nearby Sons of Gwalia Mine. Ground floor was mine office and Managers office.

In September 2010 it looked like it was no longer used inside, other than to store old desks and stuff....how sad! It is such a wonderful building!!

I just went back and found this.

My company owns it and I remember when it was used for staff and offices. Even the outbuildings were used as offices because of overcrowding. I still go inside from time to time.

These days it is just storage but it is a project to have another restoration done. Unfortunately there is no time frame at this stage, we're busy arranging a new shaft.

If there was a market here in Leonora, I would love to see this puib renovated and turned into a restaurant. The upstairs balcony is perfect for sunsets. GasGas would be in his element.

Isnt it quaint how 120 yrs ago the planners of these pubs always built them with the front entrance on the corner between two roads?... well Ive noticed this a lot lately...and today most of these corner doors are blocked/bricked up with a single road frontage entrance... :)

That front rooms last use was as a bedroom..... when the previous company used the place for staff quarters as well as offices.

I suppose you cant have drunken louts spilling out onto two roads becoming a nuisance... One road frontage is enough.. :-/

Hi There i just found this site with the photos of the State Hotel i lived in Gwalia in 1970 lived in a house opposite the old shops where the just down from where the old poppet head winch used to be my brother and i had a small prospecting show there just down from the entrance i visited there again about 3 years ago and found where i used to prospect is now another open cut the house i lived in is still there at the end near the vacant block, back in those days Western Mining had the area and used the pub up on the hill where the muesem is belong to a roo shooter once , and yes it would make a good tourist attraction for over night stays etc but i am afraid if that happen the charactor and history would disappear.
