I couldnt work out what it was, looks like a big poached egg.....I guess it is an egg??

Hi Dianne - hopefully there are a few of them underneath - that's momma swan herself curled up there on top of the nest.

What an excellent shot, great colours, great composition and nature in action. You got it all going on there BnP. Gee and I thought that was a pteranodon egg in the middle!!! Sorry Dianne, I couldn't resist.

Thanks Cal - Its pretty cool - the nest is only about 20' from a spot you can clearly watch it from. It's going to be a long 5 weeks or so til the eggs hatch!

Dianne - I just uploaded a close up of her. I'd been waiting for her to sit back up, but no luck that evening.

I've only seen one other nest here, but apparently there are at least 5 nests in the area (and at least one other isn't in a shallow area with lots of snapping turtles...)- so hopefully there'll be lots of good shots come the end of May!

LOL - I sure HOPE none of the eggs get poached! Thanks Norrel and dianne. And I'm going to have to restrain myself this spring. A few days ago in a quick spin around the ponds, I saw all 4 of the active nests. There should be lots of babies come May!
