I have read your wonderful explanation above, my friend, and I have to thank you for it! :)) I love this ancient and beautiful castle and especially the contrast between the hard grey rock and the intense green of the meadows nearby. I have to say that after visiting about 8 years ago Leed's Castle, I understood that Castles in Britain are simply precious! Thank you for sharing, Hermes! :)
A big hug!

..Valerie.. ~~ Well when it comes to Artefacts for me Italy and Greece lead the way ~ but yes we have our fair share of wonderful castles ~ some of which of wonderfully preserved ~ when we were in our early twenties a very dear friend of a similar age died and was buried in the church lying within these castle grounds ~ that was a very rare privilege for his family and the first time I visited this place. ~~ Ciao nick xxx000xxx

Nick Nice to see some photos of Portchester. My Gt Grandmother came from there and married my Gt Grandfather when he was on a naval training vessel in the town. I keep meaning to pay a visit but never get around to it. A bientot Jean

jeangenie ~~~ Hi there ~ well this is probably the best bit of Portchester and the road leading up to the Castle where there are some very pretty old cottages, but of course you could tie in a visit with going to Portsmouth, the naval dockyards, Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf Quay for the shopping and so on. So I hope you do make it one day Jean :) ~~ Have a great weekend ~ Ciao nick
