Thanks for your comment Laura. I would agree with you about the 'homey warmth'. Where I am now living on the Mediterranean coast could look the same, as the local rock is also a ferruginous limestone, except that the locals prefer a whitewashed finish (to reflect heat in the summer) to the 'homey warmth'.
