Thats cool. How old of a camp site is it.
Archaeological Research Inc. did a test excavation of a small part of the site in 1970. I believe we found the usual assemblage of grinding stones which means that people could have used the place as long as 15 thousand years ago. Or even longer. I am pretty sure we did not do any radio carbon tests because we probably didn't find anything organic. ARI also excavated several sites further west in the canyon which had deeper stratigraphy. What is clear is that Cuyama Canyon was heavily travelled by many people for thousands of years and they stopped in many spots along the way.
You can see the same oak tree on the left in the other pictures including the one I took in Nov 2006.
