Unbelievable, I have never seen this in action. What a great moment in a momma swan's life. Nice one BnP.
Thanks Cal and Miguel - I agree - I couldn't believe I happened by just as they were feeding near the shore, never mind for this little show. It was such a shock to see the little one climbing up for a ride.
Cant believe that you were there when all of this was happening, they were sure putting on a show for you. They will grow up so quickly. Well done, great shots. Dianne
This is about where I came in. I first started paying attention to the converstaions on Panoramio last spring in time for the goslings and their happy cavortings. This is a priceless shot, Bits.
Thanks Dianne - I can't believe it either, because it was just a fluke that I stopped by. It was cloudy and gray, and pretty late. So I'm pretty lucky the shots even came out, too.
LOL, not1word - and the discussions about the cooking instructions they attach to the birds out in Washington State? (Wash. Biol. Surv.) It's good to know Canada Geese have done some good (Well, in addition to inciting male swans to fly after them!)
Very cute. Looking forward to pics of their progress. No sad stories though!! Canada geese seem to get such bad press here in Panoramio, why is that? H
Nice...we don't see the babies since they are born waaaaaay up north.
Voted!!! So pretty shot! I like it very much!
Best wishes from Irina.
Noticed someone had voted, so seeing it is one of my favourites of late, definitely deserves mine. Dianne
I come back here to vote and to a YS.
It's a lovely picture.
Thanks very much for the votes and nice comments Irina, Dianne, and Miguel! I visited this family just yesterday - Easy Rider is getting to be a big teenager already, and not treating Mom as a stroller. But his unique skills did serve him well when he was young - kept him away from the snapping turtle hazard in this pond, which seems to have been the fate of his brother.
I was at a local park yesterday, and there were a couple of pelicans bobbing around in the duck pond. Every once in a while the ducks would go nuts on them, and I was wondering if the pelicans would eat the ducklings. Based on entire-net footage, this is the case, but there were a few times when it looked to me like the pelicans I was watching had a duckling isolated, but paddled away from it. Wasn't lunch time yet, I guess.
n1W I think BnP has seen these pics - a black swan defending her cygnets against a pelican
Very cute the little one climbing...:)
Hi Inspector - yes, I did see those cool shots by Ripley's Game but I'd forgotten all about them - so thanks for the link. I'd had no idea pelicans ate anything other than fish! Poor little cygnets - they sure are considered yummy by an awful lot of other creatures.
And Thanks very much Maya Marin! He continued to climb aboard until he was so large he'd have sunk his mom!
