Thanks again Nick! An ex-colleague of my wife who she has stayed friends with (both South Africans, you know) has a son who has got his pilot's licence, but still wants to build up his flying hours - so he took me up for the cost of the plane hire - the plane was a single engine Piper - less manoeverable than a helicopter, with wings below the cockpit and non-removable doors, so there is a limited gap though which to take pics - not ideal for photography, but hey! - it wasn't only about photography! (birthday pres form the wife :))

Thanks Dmitris - you don't get the chance to sit up front with bigger planes, so I grabbed the opportunity while I had it
Vittorio - thank-you - it was my bad typing the present was from my wife to me - but the flight was great :)

true Tony - this thing can actually land a 747, I believe (I was told that the Sultan of Brunai paid for it to be extended so he could land his private jumbo!)- but you'd never think it when foreshortened like this.
