Remarkable position to take the pic. Impressive!
Thank you Olga for the story and the photo's! I was eight when this inundation occured.. on my mothers birthday in 1953. I remember the radio broadcastings, the angst, the grief. We were living in the northern part of Amsterdam, wich is under sea-level. That's why we moved to a safer, higher place in the Netherlands: Arnhem: 80 mtrs above sea-level.
Syborgh, sorry that I reply to you too late. Your story impressed me much. I can only imagine who this was for you!
I am happy, that my photos were interesting to you, and I hope that no more such accident occurs in your wonderful country, Olga
Don't be sorry Olga, there's no time limit to reacting. Not even the obligation to do so. So.. Thank you!
I was wondering wether your visit to the Dutch Sea Works was official, or for pleasure only. It looks like you're in function. Am I wrong? - Fried (from Friderika)
Fried, this was a conference in Delft of the representatives of the around Baltic countries and around Northen Sea countries on the innondations, Olga
Thank you for answering my rather personal question, Olga. So you were the representative from.. Ukraine, I guess? - Fried
Fried, thank you for your interest. No, I am from Russia, Institute of oceanology, Moscow.
Our people is very mixed. In the Soviet time, when religion and nationality didn't make obstacles, our numerous nationalities mixed much, and I find (my opinion) this very good. We had also big internal migration. For example the Far East is as the USA - you may find their a mixture: Korean+Ukrainian+Tatarian and so on. A half of Primorie is populated with the Ukrainians who took with them the names of their original lands. When the USSR was broken and new states formed nobody was interested in their people, only in creating new kingdoms (no matter how to call the ruler: tsar, king, First secretary, President and so on...). Fortunately, up to now the frontier between us and Ukraine is not very severe, it is quite easy to move across, but nowday "sweet" relations between our kings may form serious problems for normal people. My origines are from Ukraine, but for more than 300 years we were one state, and all good and bad things where common. Now our politicians try to put us one against others, and the result is seen quite well, helas. Olga
Fried, my direct address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Thats an interesting point of view. Good Idea for a photo! Regards from Germany.
Xeper, Thank you, Olga
