The chapel was built in 1962 at Iraklion Air Station, and is still used by the Municipality of Gournes.

Thank you for posting this picture! I attended this chapel as a little girl when we were stationed at the base in the late 1980's. It is so neat to see it again!

I was at IAS in 1961 and 1962; the new chapel was just being completed in August of 62; I attended the old one, which was in the quonset hut. That building is behind a chain link fence, as of 3 years ago. What is ironic is that the chapel service schedule is still posted, in English.
