It is not very accessible. I just sort of stumbled upon this cool water geyser while hiking the San Rafael River. Thanks for your comment

I have never heard of a cool water geyser? Is the water that comes out actually cold?

Caleb Izdepski, on May 5, 2009, said:

I had not either and skeptically swallowed that information from someone more familiar with the area. It seems heat is required for pressure to build, however this geyser was not noticeably warm. I would like to hear from someone who knows the answer.

Don, Nearby Crystal Geyser is also a cold water geyser. These geysers are driven by CO2 accumulation in a confined aquifer, rather than heat expansion. Wiki

Hi, Caleb - this pop-bottle geyser has a sort of natural look to it, unlike some that have been developed in Utah (near Green River) and SE Idaho. Did you notice if it was constant, or had some periodicity to it? Very cool phenomenon, and a great photo :-)

There is a team of scientists looking at fish populations in the San Raf, They camp within earshot and to my knowlegde are keeping tabs on the eruptions. Seemed like every 3-4 hours.
