Hallo Jim, thankfully i did not have strange surprises here yet and i hope this will continue to be so. Hej, by the way: Did the mackerel taste well? It's such a long time that i fished mackerel from the beach in Denmark. They were hunting little herrings and were hunted by purpoises. Hundreds of seagulls showed me the way. It was a day i'll never forget. Our danish neighbour "Uncle Victor" who hated the germans in the first years when my grandpa came to Denmark and bought a house there but changed his mind when he saw all the children, had told me under which circumstances it happens that mackerels come close to the beach in august... Mackerels are really good fighters if you have a fishing rod for children, hahaha... and beautiful fishes...

Cheers from Munich, Mathias

Sterntaucher --Mathias ;>) I am most interested in your thoughts and memories from the past. How times have changed, thankfully Mathias, we can live and let live!! Our generation has built the bridges that span the chasms of war and conflict!! Long may that continue to be the case :>)

I do enjoy the taste of mackerel, but like all fish, it is ok now and then.

This year, the mackerel are very late in arriving in the lower North sea, perhaps the shoals of sardine/herring have not materialised! There have been few sightings of Dolphins, porpoises or whales so far and there is growing concern for the future of mackerel since the British government raised the Quota for them!! It has come to my knowledge that massive trawlers equipped with very high tech(cameras and SONAR) on the trawl gear are catching enormous shoals of mackerel weighing up to 700 metric tonnes at a time!! Catches of that size will very quickly decimate the mackerel shoals for ever!!

These fighting fish are best caught on the lightest of equipment, you are quite correct Mathias, a fishing rod for small children is great fun!!

Thanks for stopping by my friend ;>)
