I kid you not: This is called Shoe Tree Park, in Park City. There are about eight trees, all loaded with shoes. I don't know why. It might be an old time thing of, "I was here" or "I made it this far". So, in any event, have some fun, and toss your shoes in a tree.

This is unreal :)) but REAL! Is it possible that some very poor people can pick a pair of shoes from a tree? Or make a change of shoes perhaps ? But there are no ladders!

Cheers, Ippa

Gees! It looks like they are in pairs. I used to see this trend a few years back but I didn't know folks were still doing this. Weird but who am I to judge how others get pleasure.

Good to learn about each others cultural habits, not1word. Nice to know that we both have someting in common on the issue of shoes and trees.

Well, it all started with one little mom-and-pop shoe store, but pretty soon it had branches everywhere.

I'm glad to see that others are getting a kick outta this one, too.

) Funny comment, Ippa. It's very real, and surreal. I suppose that one could change their shoes here, some of them are a bit lower hanging than others, but none of them looked to be in very good shape. There were even hockey skates, flip flop thongs, and ski boots up there.

Better move quick, Don. One ov 'em's already noticed youse.

They are in pairs, Cal. Tie the laces together, and give 'em a fling. In cities, I see this sort of thing singly over telephone lines. I've heard that it's a sort of advertising for drug dealers, to let you know one is in the neighborhood, but it seems a bit too obvious.

Yes, Norrel, it wood seem that this is one of those things that language is no barrier to. Don't start trying to send your clompen back up a tree though. Without laces, the return might be a bit hard on the head.

Good one, Guy. You can always be counted on to come through.

LOL, love this shot! Here it is on each post of the fence & just a single boot or shoe. In fact, I was thinking about that the other day and wondering if there were any photos of it on P. Nicely shot with all the nice red brick houses behind for contrast.

PS This is a shoe-in for footage!

Hey, JF. I don't recall having ever seen this set of trees before, and as I drove by it, I almost drove off the road. I had to do a bit of winding around to get back to it, as Park City is laid out a bit strangely near here. You should put up some of your shoe fences, too. Thanks for stopping by.

I will have to keep an eye out for them. I have not been by where they were in a while - will have to check and see if they are there. I can believe it - I would have been the same way. Was worth the effort to wind back around!

Not that I noticed, Larry, but then again, there is a pretty big Odor Eaters concession just around the corner. ; )

I specialize in the odd and unusual, Nawitka. Just look at the tag. Do you have any shoes to donate?

This winter, a ship carrying sneakers lost a huge part of its load just off our coast. People went to the beach to find a matching pair, but almost all the shoes were left shoes. No joke: it had to do with the difference in shape between left and right shoes. The current swept all the left shoes to our coast, and the right ones are on their way to Massachussetts.

That's great news then Norrel, all you have to do is go to Massachusetts to find your soul mate. I'll vouch for your tale though, same thing happens here.

Norrel, on May 11, 2009, said:

I'll ask kamaly if she could find a matching one.

There have been a number of those darned shoe ships that tip over in the Pacific that I've read about, Norrel. Everybody thinks that Christmas shopping season has come early, and they stock up.

Hi! No shoes to donate, but I do have **a boot. I see the ski boots up there, but where are the hockey skates?

Norrel, there is a website dedicated to tracking lost cargo; they collect data about where things wash up to help understand ocean currents. More info about the ocean current research here and one of many articles here

There were eight of these trees in a row, stoneboat, and I think the skates were in the next one on the left.
